Televised Board Meetings in 2016

To improve our accessibility to the public, the Board voted to televise our board meetings on local community television. Our meetings will not be televised live, but they will be available for viewing on delayed broadcast repeated throughout the month as well as on demand.

Board Meetings will air on Ch. 29 on Wednesdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 2pm. They are also available on demand at the TV30 website found here. The online version is chapterized so you may skip to the item or items you are interested in.

To find Board of Directors Agendas, Minutes, TV links please visit:

I believe this to be a minimal expense to give the public more access to what is happening at Zone 7. Let me know what you think.

Follow The Money

In my work on the Finance Committee, I have been pushing for more information and greater transparency. You may know that I ask a lot of questions! I am quite excited that for the first time, under our new Assistant General Manager of Finance, we have a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). It covers Fiscal Year 2014-2015.

"The intended purpose of the financial report is to provide the Board of Directors, customers of the Agency, and other interested parties with reliable information on the finances of the Agency."

Maze and Associates performed an independent audit and have issued an unmodified ("clean") opinion on the Agency financial statements for the year ending June 30, 2015.

You can view the CAFR here.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will continue to push for the availability of more public information.

Zone 7 owns and maintains 37 miles of local flood-protection channels, about a third of all the Valley's channels and creeks. The remaining channels are owned either privately or by other public agencies, which are responsible for repairs and maintenance.
The Valley's flood-protection system begins at city-owned storm drains on local streets. Storm water flows through underground pipelines into creeks or man-made channels feeding into Arroyo Mocho, Arroyo las Positas and Arroyo del Valle. These larger channels converge with Arroyo de la Laguna, which ultimately drains into San Francisco Bay through Alameda Creek.
